Super Foods in Spain!

Could there possibly be any more trends set to be healthier? ...Of course!

Here we discuss the new trend taking the world by storm and yes...people in Spain have been doing it for years…

‘’Super foods’’ are the new must have for any self confessed health fanatic. Distinguished usually by their bright, deep colours and packed full of goodness these foods are the new must have. Many have been part of the Spanish diet for years and as we all know the Spanish have one of the healthiest diets in the world. This new craze, however, has not been started by the Spanish or British! The idea has emerged from America.

So what should you have in your supermarket trolley?

Oranges, broccoli, tomatoes, olives, pumpkin, yogurt, nuts and spinach. All the things that have been flying through the supermarket check out for years.

So what’s all the fuss about?

Besides the fact that our grandparents have been telling us for years that they are good for us, it is impossible to ignore the increasing amount of data confirming their superior nutritional value when compared to other types of food. The interest in these foods was sparked by Steven Pratt a Californian Ophthalmologist, whose book ‘’Super Foods’’ discusses fourteen foods that will ‘’change your life’’. Pratt believes that by simply including these foods into your diet they can help you prevent heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and hypertension.

Unlike most diet craze’s, Super Foods are not difficult to find and it will come as no surprise to lovers of Mediterranean food that many of them already form part of Spain’s daily diet.

So what are the 14 foods recommended?

Well of course we’ve found out and listed them below. Give it a try! How hard can it be…?

  • Beans
  • Blueberries
  • Broccoli
  • Oats
  • Oranges
  • Pumpkins
  • Salmon
  • Soy
  • Spinach
  • Tea
  • Tomatoes
  • Turkey
  • Walnuts
  • Yoghurt

So get shopping for that healthy food…!
