Costa del Sol/Estepona

The town of Estepona is located on the western side of the Costa del Sol with more than 30 kilometres of carefully maintained sandy beaches stretching along it´s picturesque coast.

In the background you can see the beautiful Sierra Bermeja Mountain which dominates the landscape and gives those living in the town a view to boast about! The Sierra´s summit can be reached via an extensive nature trawl through thick forests of pinesap, chestnut, pine trees and other native species of flora in this spectacularly beautiful spot.

The history of the town involved the Phoenicians, the Romans and the Arabs. The latter, who settled in this region the longest and left numerous legacies, many of which can be visited today. It was King Henry IV of Castilla however who in 1456 ordered the reconstruction of Estepona´s castle.

Despite being a thriving commercial centre, Estepona retains many of it´s traditional Andalucian characteristics. For example Estepona´s Promenade in Costa del Sollate of an evening, it is possible to hear the haunting sound of the "Cante Hondo", one of the most spontaneous and pure forms of flamenco. The local Flamenco Club is also especially worthy of a mention for is efforts in promoting this art form, organizing several competitions throughout the year many of which are known throughout the country.

As well as a mixture of locals and tourists, venison, wild boar, eagles and a large number of rodents and birds, both native and migrant, find their paradise in the natural habitat surrounding the town. From the top of 'Los Pedregales' Park you can contemplate the greenness of the valleys fed by the rivers and streams, the plots of land belonging to Estepona's farmers, the white of their houses, and how the tracks that descend from Sierra Bermeja meet at the town's main church. If you´re just visiting then most worthy of a visit are The Selwo wild animal park and the School of Equestrian Art ('Escuela de Arte Ecuestre')


One of Estepona´s many resort hotels in the south of SpainShopping wise, you can today still find most traditional craft objects manufactured in Estepona and displayed in local shops which stand side by side with newer more modern boutiques. You´ll find most of what you need centered around the Calle Terazza but if you need a larger selection, the large Carrefour can be found just near the entrance to the town!
