Spanish Interior: The Next Big Thing.

 

The great boom of purchasing coastal property in Spain is soon to become a thing of the past. The current trend nowadays seems to direct property investors’ attention to the beautiful unspoilt inland areas where the sunny valleys join the mountains in the peaceful silence of the typical Spanish siestas.

The unrivalled lakes, the many national parks and wildlife not found anywhere else in Europe are just a few of the many reasons why the inland areas are now becoming the preferred choice for many people thinking of relocating in Spain.

Despite the fact that the growth in value of coastal investment property is still far from over, increases of 16 per cent annually in the past few years have meant that the biggest dividends to be made may have past in many areas. Further from the coast, however, investment property figures are now beginning to look distinctly undervalued, in some areas; prices are as much as 70 per cent lower than the coast. It is not unusual to find some amazing property in many inland areas only minutes away from the coast and where people can actually experience all those things they fell in love with in Spain 20 or 30 years ago. Coinciding with that is the fact that an increasing number of British visitors seem to be more interested in encountering the real Spain and are out there looking for their dream home in the charming white washed villages or in the stunning Spanish countryside.

Added to that is the fact that the rising popularity of rural tourism, increased holiday rentals, improved flight connections to the interior from airports across the UK (which is expected to rise even further), are all key factors indicating that the Spanish interior will be “the next big thing” for property investors.

Among the many forces driving people to these vast and beautiful traditional areas is the Spanish well documented “quality of life” philosophy, encompassing all the good old family values, friendship, Mediterranean diet and the lovely weather.  Endless days with plenty of sunshine, far away from the noisy city seem to be the best recipe for a joyful and healthy way of life. Inland areas, as opposed to the busy and crowded coastal towns, combine tranquillity with unparalleled scenery and for those willing to defy the language barriers by mingling with the locals, the interior presents a completely new perspective to life, one that values friendship and time well spent with the loved ones, one that leaves aside the pressures of a highly competitive society and replaces them for that well known “mañana” lifestyle.
